Deschutes South Canyon Use Survey

Dear Southwest Bend Neighbor,

Bend has the opportunity to protect a portion of the South Canyon, an area in southwest Bend between Brookswood Blvd and the Deschutes River, by creating a new park much like Shevlin Park. The land (~145 acres) is owned by the Central Oregon Irrigation District (COID) where they operate a piped canal and power station. This land is the largest undeveloped open space remaining in the City of Bend near the river.

PART OF THIS COID PROPERTY IS APPARENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF BEING SOLD FOR DEVELOPMENT.

The property is currently used as a natural recreation area by thousands of Bend residents and visitors. People walk, run, bike, fish, ski, snowshoe and exercise their dogs along the trails. Families come to spend time exploring nature. The area is well-known for birding. The Deschutes South Canyon is an intensely used unofficial city park.

The SBNA would like to learn if and how you use the Deschutes South Canyon natural area. Please complete the Deschutes South Canyon Use Survey !!

The information you share will help guide efforts related to land use in our neighborhood. The survey is anonymous and should take 5-10 minutes. We value your input!

Thank you!
